After a lengthy absence from football, former Egypt national team star Mohamed Zidan is being chased by Ismaily to wear the Dervish jersey next season.

The 33-year-old attacker has been out of job since terminating his contract with Emirati side Bani Yas in early 2013, having fallen out with the club.

Ismaily chairman Mohamed Aboul-Saud announced Saturday that he had asked new appointed coach Ahmed "Mido" Hossam to be in charge of convincing Zidan to join the team this summer.

Moreover, Mido also confirmed that Zidan is close to joining the Dervishes, as he is trying to finalise negotiations with the out-of-action player.

"Mido is working now to find out the availability of Zidan as well as how can help the team to compete for trophies next season," Aboul-Saud said.

"It's Mido's responsibility as he is the only person to define his needs ahead of the upcoming season," the Ismaily chairman added.

The former Mainz and Dortmund striker had been struggling with injuries even before moving to Bani Yas in 2012 and hasn't played a single competitive game there for almost two years now.

He announced recently that he is still willing to return to the pitch and was reportedly linked to rumours of moving to a big club, possibly in Egypt.
