Ahly new recruit Ghanaian striker John Antwi will be out of commission for six weeks after sustaining an ankle injury during the 1-0 win over Esperance in the CAF Confederation Cup on Saturday.

The Cairo giants continued their bid towards a second straight African Confederation Cup title when an early goal by Ghanaian striker John Antwi gave them an easy 1-0 win at Tunisia's Esperance and put them within arm’s length of a last-four spot.

After a superb performance during the game, Antwi was forced to leave the pitch in the 72nd minute after sustaining an injury, making way for fellow new signing and burly striker Malick Evouna of Gabon.

"John Antwi sustained an ankle injury during the Esperance game and he will be out of action for three weeks," read a statement on the club's official website.

"When the team arrive in Cairo, Antwi will undergo medical tests to determine the seriousness of his injury," the statement added.

The former Ismaily attacker joined Ahly on a four-year contract from Saudi Arabian club Al-Shabab.

The 22-year-old Antwi spent two years in the Egyptian league playing for Ismaily, scoring 28 goals, before joining Saudi's Al-Shabab last winter but failing to book a regular place in the starting lineup.

Antwi started his senior football career with Ghanaian side Eleven Wise Sekondi in 2011 before joining Ismaily in December 2012.

The Ghanaian star has been shining with Ahly since his arrival this summer, scoring four goals in the team's record 13-0 hammering of Gouna in the Egypt Cup earlier this month, as well as scoring the victory for the Reds against Esperance on Saturday.
