Ahly striker Emad Meteb has been summoned by the Egyptian public prosecution for questioning over an alleged shooting incident following a quarrel with a taxi driver in the late hours of Tuesday.

Reports said Meteb reacted angrily after the taxi driver swore at his wife Yara Naoum, a model and actress who was named as Miss Egypt in 2008.

Meteb allegedly shot in the air to frighten the driver, who accused the 28-year-old of assaulting and trying to kill him.

“I categorically deny claims that I used a pistol to shoot another man,” Meteb said in a statement on Ahly’s official website on Wednesday.

“I don’t know why some people are inventing such stories. They are trying to affect my concentration during such a crucial stage of the season because I’m close to making my comeback.

“I was not involved in any fracas with anyone, this is totally untrue. I will not let such allegations affect my concentration with Ahly.”

Emad rejoined the Red Devils in the January transfer window after surprisingly backtracking on the deal he signed with Belgium’s Standard Liege in the summer of 2010.

He is yet to make his first appearance this season due to some niggling injuries as Ahly suffered due to the lack of a reliable striker at their disposal.
