An Egyptian court sentenced in absentia Zamalek striker Mido and winger Shikabala to one month in prison on Saturday following a brawl with three students.

The prosecutor general said three students sought to take pictures with Mido and Shikabala. The former accepted their request but the latter refused, which sparked a war of words that developed into a melee.

Both players were convicted for assaulting the three students and damaging their car.

Mido rejoined his boyhood club in January after ending an 11-year career in European football but was not able to play due to an administrative error Zamalek committed when registering him in their squad.

Shikabala has been a revelation this season, notching 13 league goals to top the scorers’ chart, as well as producing a series of impressive displays.

He denied a recent report suggesting that he agreed to join Saudi Arabian club Al-Shabab next year.
