Ahly football club's new coach, Jose Peseiro, arrived in Cairo Friday night. The Portuguese tactician to be officially welcomed at a press conference Sunday.
Last week, Ahly announced the appointment of the former Real Madrid assistant manager as the club's new coach for one season, without disclosing the financial details.
Following their first unsuccessful season since 2004, Ahly management axed manager Fathi Mabrouk and appointed Abdel-Aziz "Zizo" Abdel-Shafi as caretaker manager until the Super Cup.
Zizo guided Ahly to clinch its sole title of the season, the Super Cup, after beating Zamalek 3-2 Thursday.
Peseiro, 55, is set to take charge of Ahly, who lost the domestic double league and cup to Zamalek, starting from the Egyptian league season opener against Talae El-Geish on 22 October.
Peseiro, who failed to take Saudi Arabia to the 2010 World Cup finals, was among several candidates tipped to take the Ahly hot seat before the club confirmed that he would be the new manager following the dismissal of Mabrouk.
Apart from spells at Real Madrid and Saudi Arabia, where he was sacked following a loss to Syria in the Asia Cup in 2011, Peseiro also took charge of Saudi's Hilal, Panathinaikos, Sporting Braga and UAE's Al-Wehda.
His most notable achievement came in 2005 when he led Portuguese giants Sporting to the Europa League final before losing the title to CSKA Moscow.
