Zamalek football team has announced a boycott of all TV channel members of Egypt's Chamber of Audiovisual Media Industry (CAMI) in solidarity with the club's chairman Mortada Mansour who was banned by the chamber, the club announced on their website Monday.

The CAMI announced that they have decided to ban appearances by controversial sports and political figure Mansour and boycott all his conferences and statements due to his "morale terrorism and verbal harassment.”

Mansour, who is a daily guest on the Egyptian TV channels and known for his sharp opinions and expressions, started a new series of disputes last month against CBC TV anchor Lamis El-Hadidi regarding parliament elections coverage related to his son Ahmed Mansour- who has already won a seat.

Mansour is one of several prominent Mubarak-era figures who were accused of orchestrating the so-called "Battle of the Camel" during the 18-day uprising against former dictator Hosni Mubarak.

The “battle” occurred when a gang riding camels and horses charged into Tahrir Square and attacked protesters, killing 11 and injuring hundreds. In 2012, Mansour and 24 others were acquitted of charges of inciting the violence.

The CAMI consists of TV channels CBC, ONtv, Al-Hayat, Al-Kahera Wal Nas, Dream, Mehwer and Sada El-Balad, in addition to media agencies Promomedia, Adline, Meda Line, and Future.
