Egyptian club Ismaily have rejected the resignation of head coach Ahmed 'Mido' Hossam who decided to leave his post after Sunday's league loss to Dakhlya.
"Club president Mahmoud Abou Elsoud has rejected Mido's resignation. The coach will be in charge of the team starting from Wednesday's training session," the costal club announced in a statement on its official website late on Monday.
Earlier on Monday, the former Egypt and Tottenham striker announced his resignation only three games after the start of the Egyptian Premier League.
The 32-year-old joined the Dervishes at the start of the ongoing season, hoping to write a new history with the team, but he suffered pressure from Ismaily management and supporters.
Ismaily gained 4 points after three games in the Egyptian Premier League, losing one game to Dakhlya, a draw in another with Arab Contractors after winning the first game against El-Entag El-Harby.
"I informed the Ismaily management and fans that the team needs two years to win a trophy but they didn't agree since they want to achieve it as soon as possible," Mido told reporters on Monday.
Three-time Egyptian Premier League champions Ismaily failed to finish in the top three of the last season in order to be eligible for an African competition.
"We know how the fans are so sad, but we must be patient as we are establishing a new team. We will recover in the coming match against Haras El-Hodoud," Ismaily's football director told the club's official website after rejecting the coach's resignation.
Former Egyptian and Zamalek striker Mido became an iconic figure in Egyptian football after playing for a host of European clubs including Tottenham, Marseille, AS Roma, and Ajax.
His career was brought to an end at the age of 30 in June 2013 after a long struggle with injuries and fitness.
He became the youngest coach ever in the Egyptian Premier League, taking charge of Zamalek in January 2014 and managing to win the 2014 Egypt Cup title.
