Ismaily slumped to an embarrassing 4-1 defeat by Maqassa on Wednesday in their first Egyptian Premier League game following the sudden resignation of coach Mido.

The coastal side appeared notably affected by the departure of Mido, a former Egypt striker who had a nomadic career in European football, after he stepped down on Sunday following a fall-out with skipper and club icon Hosni Abd-Rabou.

''The team were certainly affected by the problems that have occurred lately in the club," Ismaily's interim coach Ashraf Khedr told a TV program after Wednesday's loss.

Maqassa moved top with 21 points, while Ismaily fell to sixth place with 13 points.

Mahmoud Wahid gave Maqassa the lead in the 39th minute but Ismaily striker Marwan Mohsen scored the equaliser four minutes later, netting his fourth goal this season.

Mohamed Gaber restored Maqassa's advantage on 69 minutes and Amr Barakat made it 3-1 seven minutes from time. Wahid completed the rout in stoppage time.
