Zamalek strolled into the Egypt Cup round 16 after defeating the second-tier Shabab El-Dabaa 2-0 on Thursday.
Defender Ali Gabr opened the scoring for Zamalek in the 32nd minute of the game, while forward Ahmed Hamoudi doubled the seal in the 72nd minute, marking Hamoudi's first local goal with Zamalek since joining the Cairo giants from Swiss side Basel last summer in a one-season loan deal.
The visitors were close to scoring on two occasions in the second half, but the bar denied a nice header from Karam Saad, while Zamalek's keeper Mahmoud “Genesh” Abdel-Razek blocked a powerful shot from Nigerian striker Djibril Lawal.
Following Thursday's win, the defending champions will face Ittihad El-Shorta in round 16 next month.
