Abdel Aziz Abdel Shafi ‘Zizo’ was appointed last month as the Red Devils’ caretaker coach following the resignation of former boss Hossam El Badry, who left the club in the wake of the 3-1 defeat by bitter rivals Ismaily in the Egyptian Premier League.

Reports suggested that Ahly will name a new coach after a meeting of the club’s football committee on Saturday morning but they have decided to remain tight-lipped until January.

“We will announce the new coach after the Zamalek match,” former Ahly defender Hady Khashaba, the football committee’s chief executive, told the club official website.

“We haven’t identified the new coach yet as we are still considering our options,” he added.

It was reported that ex-Angola coach Herve Renard, German Winfred Schaefer and Burkina Faso's Portuguese coach Paulo Duarte are the main candidates to take over at the Cairo giants.

The defending champions are fifth in the league table with 20 points, seven behind leaders Zamalek, who have played a game more.
