Ittihad were knocked out of the Egyptian Cup round of 16 after losing 3-2 on penalties to second-division side Nassr following a goalless draw on Wednesday.

The Alexandria-based club failed to break down Nassr, who also caused an upset in the previous round when they knocked out Egyptian Premier League side Maqassa, at home to bow out in the debut of Spanish coach Jose Macheda.

Ittihad stayed in the Premier League last season after the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) cancelled relegation, citing the adverse effects Egyptian clubs suffered following January’s revolution.

Arab Contractors qualified for the quarterfinal after claiming a 1-0 victory over Geish, thanks to a goal from promising attacking midfielder Mohamed Salah in the second half of extra time.

The Mountain Wolves will face Ismaily, who crushed Beni Suef 4-0 on Tuesday, in the competition’s quarterfinal.

Gouna will play heavyweights Zamalek after beating Asyut Petroleum 7-6 on penalties following a thrilling 3-3 draw.
