Egypt and Ahly’s striker Emad Meteb is set to resume full training in December after five months on the sidelines due to back problems. “Meteb will begin his rehab programme today and will be ready for training and friendly matches after a month”, Ahly’s football director Hady Khashaba told the club’s official site on Monday.
The 27-year old striker has been ruled out since last June with a back injury, leaving Ahly with few options upfront and a lacklustre offensive display. “We hope to help him recover his fitness and form within the next couple of months to boost the team in its campaign. Meteb is a crucial player as he has the skills and experience to lead Ahly to more victories,” added Khashaba.
Meteb joined Belgian giants Standard Liege at the end of the season as a free agent but then the deal collapsed and he opted to extend his stay with the Red Devils.
However he inked the new 3.5 year-contract after the end of the transfer window in Egypt and won’t have any action until next January. The international striker said that it was a great opportunity to recover totally from his back problems so he could be fully fit for the rest of season, as well as for the Pharaohs’ campaign in the African Cup of Nations’ qualifiers.
