Ahly skipper Hossam Ghaly
Ahly players are determined to get a positive result in Wednesday's match against Moroccan side Wydad, in order to keep their slim hopes of reaching the CAF Champions League semi-finals alive, skipper Hossam Ghaly said on Saturday.
The Reds will be hosted by the Moroccan team in the fourth round of the prestigious continental competition group stage. The two sides drew 1-1 in Alexandria on 17 July in the third round.
"The Wydad match will be a difficult one. The Ahly players need to fully concentrate to achieve a positive result that keeps our hopes of continuing our Champions League campaign successfully," Ghlay was quoted as saying by Ahly's official website.
Despite tailing Group A of the CAF Champions League with only one point, Ahly's Dutch coach Martin Jol has recently stated he still hopes to reach the next stage.
The eight-time African champions need to win their remaining three matches, including away games against Wydad and ASEC, to stand a chance of booking one of two group tickets to the semi-finals.
"The chance of reaching the semi-finals is difficult but not impossible. Ahly players realise this fact well and refuse to give up as they are determined to get a positive result in Morocco," former Tottenham midfielder Ghaly explained.
"We have enough experience to play away under the pressure of our opponent's fans," he concluded.
Ahly, who won the last of their record eight Champions League titles in 2013, were recently crowned with the Egyptian league title after losing it last season to rivals Zamalek.
