Five-time Balloon D'or winner and Barcelona star Lionel Messi has agreed to postpone a medical tourism campaign visit to Egypt planned for this month to February, following the deadly bombing of St. Peter and St. Paul's Church on Sunday, the website of visit organisers Prime Pharma said on Thursday.

Messi sent his condolences to the families of the victims of Sunday's attack and said he understands the reasons for postponing, said Tamer Wagih, CEO of Prime Pharma, the company that organises Tour n' Cure.

Sunday's suicide bombing at the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul in Cairo left 25 dead and more than 40 injured.

The company agreed with the Argentine superstar to postpone his visit to February 2017.

Messi was expected to arrive in Cairo sometime in December to promote Egypt's Tour n’ Cure medical tourism campaign, which runs combined tourism and Hepatitis C. treatment travel packages in Egypt.

In July, Messi's FC Barcelona colleague and Brazil defender Daniel Alves joined the Egyptian Tour n’ Cure campaign to fight Hepatitis C. and boost tourism in Egypt.

Egypt has gained global recognition for fighting the disease, with the World Health Organisation celebrating World Hepatitis C. Day in Cairo in 2015.
