Despite their poor performance in the Nigerian League, Enugu Rangers coach Imama Amapakabo voiced confidence ahead of his side's Champions League clash against Zamalek in the tournament's round of 16, adding that he is sure that his side will claim a positive result in Egypt.
Zamalek will host the Nigerian side in the first leg on Sunday before playing the second leg one week later in Nigeria.
“We go to Egypt with confidence that we can get a positive result as we strive to do Nigeria proud in this prestigious competition,” Amapakabo told Super Sport.
Enugu Rangers – the 2016 Nigerian League champions – are struggling in the Nigerian League this season as they are just above the relegation zone at 16th place on the League table.
However, the coach believes he still has time to resolve his side's mistakes, especially on the frontline.
"It is now up to me as a coach to see what the deficiencies of my team are," Amapakabo said.
"I virtually have the same set of players I had last season that won the league.
“I think [the recent underwhelming performances] have to do with self-belief.
“I will say it is my responsibility to make the team play in a way that will create chances, but I will also say it is the responsibility of the players to make use of the chances they create.”
Zamalek are bidding for their sixth title, while Enugu Rangers eye their first African title, as there their best achievement has been as runners up in the African Cup of Clubs champions in 1975.
