Talented Zamalek winger Hazem Emam demanded that his club give him his benefits, threatening to lodge an official complaint with FIFA if it failed to do so.

“I haven’t received any salary since last season, which, according to FIFA regulations, allows me to terminate my contract with the club,” Emam told Ahram Online.

He went on to point to the case of his Qatari teammate, midfielder Hussein Yasser Mohamady, who joined Belgium side Lierse for financial reasons before the expiry of his contract period with Zamalek.

“I’ll wait one week before I start procedures,” Emam said.

The player’s agent, Mohamed Mansour, told Ahram Online that three different European clubs hoped to land Emam in the event he was released from Zamalek.

“Swedish Djurgardens IF, Spanish Celta Vigo and Athletic Bilbao all want the player,” Mansour noted.

Established in 1911, Zamalek are making a bid for their first Egyptian Premier League title since 2004. They are currently fifth in the league table with ten points – four behind archrivals Ahly, with one game in hand.
