A delightful first-half goal from Ivorian striker Souleymane Coulibaly gave Ahly an easy 1-0 Egyptian league win over minnows Tanta at Cairo's El-Salam Stadium on Monday.

Coulibaly scored his fifth goal for the Cairo giants when he eluded a Tanta defender inside the area with his right foot before finding the net with his left in the 35th minute.

The victory cemented Ahly's position at the top of the league table with 67 points, 10 ahead of second-placed Maqassa and a massive 21-point clear of third-placed and arch-foes Zamalek.

Tanta are in 14th spot on 24 points, just four ahead of the relegation zone.

Brilliant Coulibaly winner

Ahly were expectedly the side in control from the outset, and could have well taken the lead through Abdallah El-Said who saw two attempts narrowly miss the target inside the opening 11 minutes.

Tanta's first attempt came in the 19th minute through Hussein Helmi who hit a strike wide.

The main highlight of the half came minutes later when Coulibaly delightfully controlled the ball while evading a challenger with his right foot before unleashing a low strike with his left that found the back of the net.

Egypt's chief playmaker El-Said came again to miss the target after the break, this time seeing a free kick go wide just nine minutes after the restart.

Mohamed El-Ashri responded with a header that narrowly went wide just two minutes later in what could be deemed Tanta's most dangerous chance of the game.

Twenty-two-year-old Coulibaly was denied the chance of completing a brace when he saw a placed effort towards the far post kept away by the keeper as Ahly came up 1-0 winners.
