The superb winning streak of recently-crowned league champions Ahly was suddenly stopped by rivals Smouha as both teams played out a 0-0 draw in the Egyptian Premier League in Alexandria on Sunday.

Ahly, who already secured the league title with six weeks to spare, were eyeing a 17th consecutive league victory to equal the club's record achieved under Portuguese coach Manuel Jose Da silva in 2005, but the coastal side spoiled their mission.

Coach Hossam El-Badry made numerous changes to Ahly squad to cover the absence of a host of first-teamers due to different reasons.

Ahly had the upper hand in terms of possession throughout the whole game but without a real threat.

The Cairo giants intensified their pressure directly after the break, but in vain as the Alexandria-based club kept a tightened defence till the final whistle.

Sunday's draw left Ahly top with a massive 19-point gap with second-placed Ismaily, while Smouha remained fifth with 47 points.
