April 2 - Zamalek are knocked out of the African Champions League preliminaries after their match against Tunisia’s Club Africain in Cairo is called off. The match is abandoned in the final minutes when thousands of Zamalek supporters invade the pitch in what was the first official match held in Egypt after Mubarak’s ouster.
April 13 - The Egyptian Premier League resumes following a lengthy break amidst debates over whether it is appropriate to restart the league, given security concerns post-January.
May 1 - Egypt U-20 team clinch the bronze medal of the African Youth Championship after beating Mali 1-0 in the third place match.
June 5 - Egypt’s hopes to reach the Nations Cup are dashed following a disappointing draw with South Africa at a home match without a goal scored
June 6 - Egypt sacks successful national coach Hassan Shehata following the 0-0 draw with South Africa in Cairo.
29 June - Ahly and Zamalek play an entertaining 2-2 draw in a thrilling Cairo derby. Ahly’s Mauritanian striker Dominique Da Silva scores with five minutes remaining bringing the score to a draw.

July 7 - Ahly win the Egyptian Premier League for the seventh consecutive season after crushing Arab Contractors 5-1. The Red Devils wrap up the title with one game to spare.
July 11 - Smouha beat Wadi Degla 2-1 in the last Egyptian Premier League game.
July 13 - Zamalek name club icon Hassan Shehata as their new coach after sacking Hossam Hassan.
August 2 - The Egyptian Football Association cancels the league’s relegation system, citing the adverse effects of the revolution on domestic clubs. The decision causes controversy.
August 10 - Egypt is eliminated from the U-20 World Cup in Colombia after slumping to a 2-1 defeat by Argentina following a brave fight. The Young Pharaohs exit the tournament with heads held high after some promising displays.
September 3 - Egypt’s senior side, which is represented by the U-23 team, officially fail in their bid to reach the Nations Cup after suffering a 2-1 loss away to Sierra Leone.
September 16 - Ahly wave goodbye to the African Champions League after a 1-1 draw with Tunisia’s Esperance in Cairo. The result leaves them third in Group B.
September 24 - American coach Bob Bradley formally succeeds Shehata as Egypt’s boss. The former United States tactician vows to do his best to fulfill the country’s long-held dream of reaching the World Cup.
October 11 - Zamalek surprisingly lose 2-1 to ENPPI in the Egypt Cup final. ENPPI come from behind to score twice, including an 80th minute goal from striker Ahmed Abdel-Zaher, to win the secondary domestic competition for the second time.
October 14 - The new Egyptian Premier League season kicks off.
Bob Bradley made his debut with the Pharaohs against Brazil 2-0
November 14 - Egypt marks the debut of coach Bradley with a 2-0 friendly defeat by five-time world champions Brazil in Qatari capital Doha.
December 10 - Egypt qualify for the 2012 Olympic Games in London to end a 20-year absence. The U-23 side qualify after finishing third at the African Championship in Morocco.
Fireworks caused fierce debates
December 12 - The Egyptian FA decide to cancel the ban imposed upon use of firecrackers by fans. The shamareekh (fireworks) have caused a huge debate this season because of their extensive use by football Ultras.
December 20 - Wealthy businessman Mamdouh Abbas reinstated as Zamalek’s chairman after his foe, Mortada Mansour, drops a lawsuit against him.
