Zamalek snatch late win against third tier team to advance in Egypt Cup

Zamalek had to fight until the 83rd minute to grab a late winner 1-0 against Menyet Samanoud, who plays in the Egyptian third division, to reach Egypt’s Cup round of 16 on Thursday.

Second half substitute Ibrahim Hassan powered a header at the far post after meeting a precise cross from Youssef “Obama” Ibrahim to avoid his side the embarrassment.

The title holders were in complete control of the game and were rarely troubled by their visitors who defended in numbers and tried to force some counter-attacks.

The game remained deadlocked due to some poor finishing from the Whites attackers who squandered a host of easy chances additionally to some heroic stretches from Samanoud’s keeper Ahmed Hassan until he was finally beaten in the final minutes.

Zamalek will play El-Entag El-Harby in round of 16.
