Masry’s new coach Hossam Hassan got off his new adventure to a winning start after his side secured a late 1-0 home win over ENPPI in the Egyptian Premier League on Wednesday.
Burkinabe striker Abdoulaye Cisse netted the winner one minute from time to give the Port Said-based club a hard-fought win.
Egypt’s all-time leading scorer Hassan took over at the club for a second stint on Monday after they sacked Talaat Youssef following a string of poor results.
Some ecstatic fans carried Hassan on their shoulders following the final whistle in a sign that tensions between the former Zamalek manager, who was dismissed as Masry boss in late 2008, and the team’s die-hard supporters have eased.
This victory ended ENPPI’s four-match winning streak under coach Hossam El-Badry.
Elsewhere, Smouha striker Hany El-Egeizy scored twice and Ghanaian Samuel Affum was also on the scoresheet as the Alexandria-based club beat Maqassa 3-1.
