Harras El-Hodoud regained their position on top of the Egyptian Premier League with a narrow 1-0 win at Ittihad of Alexandria on Tuesday, extending their winning streak to 12 matches.
Striker Ahmed Hassan Mekki netted the winner after 25 minutes to take his tally to nine league goals that put him on top of the scorers'chart.
He connected with a superb cross from the right to send a glancing header past Ittihad's diving keeper Essam El-Hadary, who made his debut after joining the Alexandria club from Sudanese giants El-Merreikh.
El-Hodoud withstood an Ittihad onslaught in the second half to claim all three points and maintain their fairytale domestic run.
They are on top of the 19-team league table with 37 points, one ahead of defending champions Ahly who briefly moved top after beating Arab Contractors last week.
