Ahly's Portuguese coach Manuel Jose on Saturday told chairman Hassan Hamdy that he wants the team to play six friendlies before their African Champions League round of 32 match on 23 March.

The technical staff are waiting for the approval of a 10-day training camp in Qatar which will include at least one friendly.

“Jose wants to play five or six games to prepare the players before the African race,” football director Sayed Abdel-Hafiz told Ahram Online.

All football competitions in Egypt were postponed following the Port Said disaster that killed 74 people and left hundreds injured on 1 February.

“We didn’t talk about the league resuming as we are still waiting for the perpetrators of the Port Said tragedy to be brought to justice,” Abdel-Hafiz added.

Ahly's football committee is discussing friendlies against Tunisian side Esperance and Spanish side Atletico Madrid in March.
