Ahly striker Marwan Mohsen had surgery on his face on Tuesday morning after suffering a fracture to his facial bones and upper jaw during the team’s first Egyptian premier league victory this season on Monday, against Smouha at Borg El-Arab stadium in Alexandria.

The 30-year-old striker was substituted in the 37th minute of the game after he was hit in the face by Smouha midfielder Maguette Diop during a mid-air collision.

He was sent to Cairo for X-rays, according to Ahly’s website.

Mohsen will need from four to five weeks’ rest before returning to training, and he will use a face mask to protect his face during this period, the website said.

Ahly opened their league campaign by defeating Smouha 1-0 with a goal by 22-year-old winger Ramadan Sobhi in the tenth minute of the game, assisted by Mohsen.

Their next game will be on Saturday against Kano Sport in the second leg match of the 32nd round of Confederation of African Football (CAF)'s Champions League. It will take place in Egypt.
