Zamalek’s Salah Soliman will be out for several weeks after undergoing a knee surgery on Thursday, the club’s doctor said.

“Soliman had to go under the knife due to a knee cartilage injury,” Ayman Farid said on the club’s official website.

“He will miss training for four weeks, after which he will undergo rehabilitation to return to action.”

Soliman has been the preferred choice of coach Hassan Shehata to partner Hani Saied in the heart of Zamalek’s defence since joining from Ghazl El-Mahalla last summer.

However, the 22-year-old’s injury is unlikely to worry Shehata, given that domestic football activities have been suspended since the infamous Port Said disaster which left 74 fans dead on the first of February.

Soliman will miss Zamalek’s game against Tanzania’s Young Africans in Cairo in the second leg of the African Champions League preliminary round on the third of March.
