Zamalek say they have rejected an offer from a Russian club to sign Amr Zaki on loan

Zamalek have turned down an offer from a Russian club to sign striker Amr Zaki on loan until the end of the season, the club’s board member Abdallah George said on Friday.

George did not name the club but said they were willing to pay $500,000 to acquire Zaki’s services.

“Coach Hassan Shehata said he needs Zaki during the coming period as Zamalek have African Champions League commitments,” he added.

The burly striker has recently returned to Zamalek’s fold, having been out of favour for three months due a dispute with the club over unpaid wages.

He helped the Cairo giants salvage a 1-1 draw at Tanzania’s Young Africans in the first-leg of the Champions League preliminary round last month when he scored after coming on as a second-half substitute.

Zaki, who had an unsuccessful spell with Russia’s Lokomotiv Moscow in 2006, will miss the second leg in Cairo on Saturday due to injury.
