The African Champions League match between Egypt's Ahly and Tunisia's Etoile du Sahel has been postponed for 48 hours to be played on 26 January, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) revealed on Wednesday.

The Reds were due to host the Tunisian side on Friday in Cairo in the fifth round of the prestigious tournament group stage, but the Egyptian Football Association asked CAF to put off the match upon the country's security authorities' request.

"CAF informed us that the match will be postponed for 48 hours," read a short statement on Ahly's official website.

Ahly stumbled in their march towards the Champions League quarters after Saturday's away draw to Zimbabwean side Platinum FC in the fourth round of the group stage.

Ahly, who also won twice and dealt a loss in the four matches they played so far, currently lie second in Group B table with seven points, and two points behind leaders Etoile du Sahel.

Sudan's Al-Hilal comes third with six points, while Platinum FC lie at the bottom with just a single point.

After the Etoile match, the record eight-time winners Ahly, who are eyeing their first Champions League crown since 2013, will face Al-Hilal away from home in their final group stage game.

Zamalek v TP Mazembe tie brought forward

Also on Wednesday, Zamalek's Champions League home match with DR Congo's TP Mazembe was brought forward by 24 hours, to be played on 24 January, also for security reasons.
The Whites boosted their chances of reaching the quarters with two matches remaining in Group A after defeating ZESCO United 2-0 in the fourth round. The Egyptians currently have seven points from four matches, three behind leaders TP Mazembe.
