Ahly's Angolan winger Geraldo will be sidelined for two weeks due to an ankle injury, the club announced on Wednesday.

"Scans revealed that Geraldo, who sustained an injury during the match against Sundowns on Saturday, is suffering from an ankle injury that requires a rehabilitation programme for two weeks," read a short statement on Ahly's official website.

Ahly will be missing the services of Geraldo and Tunisian left-back Ali Maaloul when they face rivals Smouha in the Egyptian Premier League on Wednesday night.

"The technical staff preferred to give Maaloul extra time to recover from the muscular pains that he felt after Sundowns' match," the Ahly statement added.

Ahly recently reached the semi-final of the CAF Champions League after passing South Africa's Mamelodi Sundowns. The record eight-time African Champions Ahly will be facing Wydad Casablanca of Morocco in the semis.

At the domestic level, holders Ahly are leading the Egyptian Premier League table with 48 points, 16 points ahead of second-placed Arab Contractors.
