Ahly coach Rene Weiler (Al-Ahram)
Ahly’s Swiss coach Rene Weiler announced Saturday that he will stay in Egypt to complete his mission with the Cairo giants despite the coronavirus outbreak all over the world.
"Logically, I prefer to be with my family, but fortunately I am ok and I have responsibilities here in Egypt, especially that we don't know what will happen in the near future," Weiler told Swiss daily newspaper Tagblatt.
"I will continue working with Ahly. I am working to develop the team, my trainings tool and my personal skills," he added.
"I am also doing more reading and performing sports in the fitness room in the hotel, and I have more time to think," the 46-year-old coach added.
In March, all Egyptian football activities were suspended indefinitely over the worldwide coronavirus outbreak.
Weiler, who joined the Cairo giants at the beginning of the current season, has had an outstanding performance with the Reds, leading the team in 31 games, losing in two matches, tying in four, and winning 25.
Until the suspension of sports activities, holders Ahly were strong candidates for the title this season as they currently lead the league table with 49 points from 17 matches, 16 points ahead of second placed Arab Contractors.
