Zamalek board member Ibrahim Youssef on Tuesday blamed the club's financial problems for the delay in renewing the contract of Abdel-Wahed El-Sayed.

The veteran goalkeeper yesterday threatened to leave the club at the end of the season in frustration at being "ignored" by the club's management.

On Tuesday, Youssef insisted the player would stay at the club.

“The financial crisis is the main reason we haven't begun contract renewal negotiations with Abdel-Wahed, but I can confirm that it is just a matter of time,” Youssef said.

The 34-year old-goalkeeper began his career with the Whites in 1999, quickly becoming one of the club's key players and helping them win three Egyptian league titles.
