Ahly's new signing Taher Mohamed Taher said he hopes to follow in the footsteps of Liverpool's Egyptian star Mohamed Salah one day.

The 23-year-old completed his move to Egypt's most successful club on Thursday, joining from Arab Contractors on a five-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

"I am doing my best to be like Mohamed Salah, who played for big teams in a short period," Taher told Ahly TV.

"I followed Ahly games this season and I liike the team's playing style under the leadership of coach (Rene) Weiler as well as his ability to improve the players' performances."

The 23-year-old player, who is a product of Arab Contactors' youth academy, had a previous experience with French side Le Havre in 2016 before returning to his boyhood club one season later.

Taher scored just one goal in six appearances this season, as he was sidelined for a long period due to injury.

He netted three goals and provided six assists in 19 appearances with Arab Contractors last season.
