A stoppage-time penalty from midfielder Adel Mostafa helped ENPPI salvage a 1-1 draw at Burundi’s Lydia LB Academic in the first leg of the African Confederation Cup round of 32 on Saturday.
The visitors wasted several goal-scoring in the first half and paid for that when Lydia took the lead early into the second period.
A blunder by ENPPI keeper Aly Lotfi gave the hosts the initiative but the Egyptian side were eventually rescued by Mostafa, who came on as a second-half substitute.
The referee pointed to the spot for a handball on a Lydia defender just before the end and Mostafa made no mistake to give ENPPI the upper hand ahead of the second leg in a fortnight.
ENPPI, who won the Egypt Cup last year, are bidding to become the first Egyptian team to win Africa’s secondary club competition.
