Ahly’s left-back Sayed Moawad will be out of action for up to six weeks after injuring his hamstring in a Champions League game on Sunday, football director Sayed Abdel-Hafiz said.
The 31-year-old defender picked up the injury in Ahly‘s 0-0 draw at Ethiopian Coffee in the first leg of the competition’s round of 32. He was substituted in the first half, making way for diminutive wing-back Ahmed Shedid.
‘’It will be so difficult for Moawad to play against Ethiopian Coffee in the second leg. He needs around 6 weeks of treatment,” Abdel-Hafiz said in a television interview after the match.
Abdel-Hafiz also said that striker Mohamad Nagy ‘Gedo’ is doubtful for the second leg, scheduled to take place on 8 April in Cairo, after straining a hamstring muscle.
The former Ahly midfielder said he was satisfied with the 0-0 draw, but insisted the team’s progress to the next round should not be taken for granted.
‘’The team made a good result but we have to cautious in the second leg to avoid any surprises,’’ he concluded.
