Zamalek’s football supervisor Amir Mortada Mansour announced on Monday that the team's efficient duo, midfielder Ferjani Sassi and defender Mahmoud Alaa, will be fit for the second leg game of the CAF Champions League semifinal against Morocco's Raja next week.
The White Knights earned a precious first-leg advantage, thanks to a first-half header from Moroccan winger Achraf Bencharkias; the game finished with a narrow 1-0 win for the Cairo team.
Tunisian midfielder Sassi missed the game after testing positive for COVID-19 while defender Alaa suffered from a leg injury.
"Sassi was fighting to take part in the game until the last minute before the game, and he will undergo a PCR test to determine his situation for the second leg game," Mansour said.
Zamalek will host Raja in the second leg at Cairo Stadium on Saturday.
"Mahmoud Alaa was fit for the first leg, but the technical staff feared he would aggravate his injury,"
"We will do our best to make Alaa fit for the second leg game in Egypt, and if he does not recover in time, we have no fears as we still have other defenders," the Zamalek football supervisor added.
Zamalek are bidding for their sixth Champions League title, and the first since they defeated Raja 1-0 on aggregate in a two-legged final in 2002.
