Cairo giants Ahly face a stern test ahead of next month’s FIFA Club World Cup, as they will meet star-studded Pyramids FC on Tuesday in the top game of the 10th round of the Egyptian Premier League.

The African Champions are scheduled to travel to Qatar on 29 January ahead of their match against hosts Al-Duhail on 4 February in the quarter final of the Club World Cup, and the Pyramids FC game will be their final warm up before joining the world's elite.

The Reds are sharing the league lead with Zamalek as both have 20 points, but they have a better goal difference. Meanwhile, Pyramids FC have put on some unconvincing performances, ending up fifth with 13 points after eight matches.

The big spending club were expected to fire on all cylinders this season as they had a busy transfer market that saw them lure some big names with the likes of Huddersfield’s flamboyant winger Ramadan Sobhi, Ahly's out of contract trio Ahmed Fathi, Sherif Ekrami and Ahmed El Sheikh, and Palestinian striker Mahmoud Wadi.

However, Pyramids FC won in only three matches, tied in four and lost a single game.

Ahly’s South African coach has called a full squad for the game, including solid goalie Mohamed El-Shennawi after the end of his suspension. Midfielder Akram Tawfik, who tested positive for COVID-19, and injured veteran forward Walid Soliman, are the only absences from this game.

It will be a first-time reunion as Ahly face his four former players who switched camps the close season. All eyes will be on Ramadan Sobhi, who decided to end his loan-spell abruptly with the Reds and opted for a lucrative permanent move to Pyramids FC, which created the saga of last season.
