Zamalek regained their place at the top of the league table after defeating Maqasaa 4-1 at Petro Sport Stadium on Thursday.

The White Knights are leading the table with 23 points, two points ahead of second placed Ahly, who were held to a goalless draw by Pyramids FC on Tuesday.

Moroccan winger Achraf Bencharki opened the scoring in the 14th minute, while Youssef 'Obama' Ibrahim added the second seven minutes later.

The Atlas Lions international made it 3-0 three minutes after the hour-mark, and Obama completed the rout in the 76th minute as the White Knights claimed their biggest win this season so far.

The Maqassa striker Marwan Hamdi scored the consolation goal for the visitors with 10 minutes remaining.

Zamalek needed only 14 minutes to earn a deserved lead following numerous mistakes from the visitors, as Bencharki gained a penalty after being brought down by Maqassa keeper Mohamed Shaker.

The Moroccan winger converted the penalty, giving his side an early lead.

Seven minutes later, Tunisian midfielder Ferjani Sassi intercepted the ball in midfield before setting Obama clear to easily add the second.

With Maqqssa's fatal mistakes in the midfield, Zamalek had the chance to score more goals as Bencharkia and Ahmed 'Zizo' Sayed wasted a three clear goal-scoring chances.

The second half was no different, as Bencharki's powerful shot from inside the area in the 51st minutes was blocked by the keeper.

Ten minutes later, the former Wydad forward scored his second goal and the third in the game with a nice shot, taking his goal tally this season to four goals.

Obama added the fourth goal for Zamalek and his fifth goal this season after receiving a nice back-pass from Mahmoud ' Shikabala' Abdel-Razek.

The latter had the chance to open his scoring account this season, but his close-range was denied by the bar.

Maqassa striker Marwan Hamdi scored his side's only goal with a glancing header at the far post to punish Zamalek defenders for their poor marking.
