Zamalek are targeting Asante Kotoko striker Kwame Opoku and Maqassa’s striker Marwan Hamdi as potential replacements for their departed striker Mostafa Mohamed, the club’s football supervisor Ashraf Kasem revealed on Saturday.

On Thursday, the Cairo giants announced that the team's influential striker Mostafa Mohamed will join Turkish giants Galatasaray on a one-season-and-a-half loan deal, leaving Portuguese coach Jaime Pacheco on a mission to boost the team's frontline.

“Throughout the past 20 days I watched videos for several African strikers and I nominated Asante Kotoko striker and top scorer of Ghanaian league Kwame Opoku to join the club, but we will be facing a dilemma since our foreign players quota is complete,” Kasem told On Time Sports TV channel.

Meanwhile, Zamalek’s Moroccan striker Mohammad Onajem is reportedly close to leaving the club during the current transfer window, meaning that could be the only way to complete the signing of Opoku.

However, Kasem said the Zamalek board has rejected an offer by Morocco’s Wydad to sign Onajem on loan for free.

The 21-year old Opoku, who joined Asante Kotoko last October, has scored five goals in nine appearances in the Ghanian league so far this season.

Alongside Opoku, Maqassa’s striker Marwan Hamdi, 24, remains another strong candidate to join Zamalek this winter, according to the club's football supervisor.

“I believe that Marwan Hamdi is most appropriate for Zamalek since he is still young and active and if both of them [Opoku and Hmadi] joined the club that would be great for the technical staff,” Kasem concluded.

Hamdi is delivering outstanding performances with Maqassa in the Egyptian Premier League this season, hitting the net four times in seven appearances.

Zamalek currently lead the Egyptian League table with 23 points from nine games, two ahead of second-placed and arch rivals Ahly.
