Ahly considers playing with a different strategy when they face European champions Bayern Munich at the FIFA Club World Cup on Monday, according to Assistant Coach Samy Komsan who also praised fans' attendance for the team's matches in Qatar.
After claiming a narrow 1-0 victory over Qatar's Al-Duhail at the Club World Cup quarters on Thursday, the Red Devils will meet European Giants Bayern at the prestigious tournament's semifinal in Doha.
"We talked with our players to forget about facing Bayern ahead of the tournament start as we wanted them to be fully concentrate on the first match against Al-Duhail to achieve our target of reaching the semi-final and that's exactly what happened," Ahly's Assistant Coach Samy Komsan was quoted as saying by the club's official website late on Friday.
"The technical staff and players promised our fans to deliver our best against Al-Duhail," he added.
"We are awaiting an important and historical game against Bayern as we will be facing the European champions with a group of the best players in the world," he added.
Komsan also said that the technical staff is preparing players well for Monday's match and is also working on choosing the suitable playing strategy to deliver the best image of Africa's Champions.
"As Bayern Munich have different solutions in all positions on the field, especially as the team includes a host of skilful players, Ahly could change their playing style against the Bavarian team," Ahly's assistant coach explained.
Komsan also heaped praises on the role of Ahly fans' attendance at the Club World Cup in Qatar especially as the team is playing behind closed doors in Egypt due to the coronavirus pandemic.
"We are happy to play again for Ahly fans. The players expressed their great delight of fans attendance as it gives them strong ambitions to deliver their best," Komsan added.
"I want to tell the players to concentrate only on the match, we are confident in their abilities to deliver the performance that fits Ahly's status and the ambitions of its supporters as well as to write their own history at the biggest tournament in the world on club level," he concluded.
Ahly had met Bayern Munich in two friendly matches; the first was in 1977 that ended with a 2-1 win for the Egyptian team, and the second was in 2012 that ended with a 2-1 victory for the Bavarians.
Ahly have made five previous appearances at the Club World Cup, the last of which was in 2013. Their best result was a third-place finish at Japan's 2006 edition.
