Pyramids beat El-Geish 1-0 in the Egyptian Premier League (Ahram)
New recruit Diego Rolan scored for the second successive game as injury-hit Pyramids FC snapped a four-match winless run with a narrow 1-0 win over Talae El-Geish in the Egyptian Premier League on Saturday.
The Uruguay international striker converted a 77th-minute penalty awarded following a VAR review to help Pyramids to a hard-fought win that eased pressure on Argentinean coach Rodolfo Arruabarrena.
Roland, who was signed last month, was also on target in Pyramids' 3-2 loss to Enppi in their previous game.
Despite spending big in the close season to sign the likes of former Ahly winger Ramadan Sobhi and veteran right-back Ahmed Fathi, Pyramids made their worst start to a season since being bought by Saudi investor Turki Al-Sheikh in the summer of 2018. The club was sold to Emirati businessman Salem Al Shamsi a year later.
Pyramids were missing a host of regulars against El-Geish through injury, including top scorer Sobhi and experienced playmaker Abdallah El-Said.
But they still got the job done against El-Geish, who were unlucky not to score after missing some easy chances.
Pyramids kept alive their faint hopes of challenging Ahly and Zamalek for the league title as they moved up to fifth in the league table with 18 points from 12 games.
Leaders Zamalek have 23 points from 10 matches while second-placed Ahly have 21 from nine games.
