Egyptian club Zamalek have contacted security authorities to demand their fans' attendance at their upcoming CAF Champions League round-16 match against Maghreb Fes on 13 May.

"We have sent an official letter to the interior ministry demanding that they secure fans' attendance at the Africa competition match that we'll play against our Moroccan guests," Whites executive manager Ali Abul-Naga told Ahram Online.

Spectators have been barred from attending all official and friendly matches held in the country since domestic football activities were indefinitely suspended in the wake of February's Port Said stadium disaster.

"We also support similar demands by Ahly, who will play a home match in the same round next month," Abul-Naga said.

Zamalek had the upper hand in the first leg, winning 2-0 in Morocco on Saturday; Ahly, meanwhile, are set to play Stade Malien in Mali on Sunday.

Currently facing almost-daily protests throughout the country, Egyptian security authorities are expected to decline the request, as they recently ruled out holding the Egypt Cup following the cancellation of the Egyptian Premier League season.
