Ahly midfielder Hamdi Fathi has been cleared fit for Friday's anticipated African Super Cup clash against Morocco’s RS Berkane, while defender Ayman Ashraf has recovered from his recent injury, the club's doctor Ahmed Abu-Abla announced on Wednesday.
Champions League winners Ahly meet Confederation Cup champions RS Berkane at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium in Qatari capital Doha.
“Fathi is ready for the Super Cup match after getting the green light from the specialist doctor following a recent scan on his injury,” Abu-Abla revealed via Ahly’s official website.
The 27-year old Fathi remained on the sidelines for almost two months after fracturing his radius bone while being in international duty against Kenya on in the 2021 African Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Meanwhile, the 30- year old defender Ayman Ashraf is set to rejoin the trainings today after recovering from a knock that he picked against Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday.
Against RS Berkane, the Cairo giants will also be boosted by the return of influential left-back Ali Maaloul after recovering from a hamstring injury.
Ahly, who have a record of six Super Cup wins, claimed the Champions League after defeating arch-rivals Zamalek 2-1 in a remarkable final in November last year, while RS Berkane won the Confederation Cup at the expense of Egyptian team Pyramids FC.
