Zamalek will be looking to continue their recent perfect run and move a step closer towards a long-awaited Egyptian Premier League triumph when they face struggling Wadi Degla on Tuesday.

The White Knights are seeking to extend their five-match winning run to keep challengers and defending champions Ahly at bay in an exciting two-horse race for the premier domestic competition.

They have 70 points on top of the table, two ahead of Ahly with just four matches remaining.

With Ahly waiting in the wings for any chance to bridge that gap, Zamalek are aware they can't afford to drop any points against Degla.

Degla are involved in a fight of their own as they languish second from bottom in the table with 25 points, four adrift of the safety zone.

They are likely to adopt a bold approach in an attempt to cause a huge upset. They will be looking to go one better after holding Zamalek to a 0-0 draw in March.

Back then, the heroics of veteran goalkeeper Mohamed Abdel-Monsef, an ex-Zamalek shot-stopper, gave Degla a share of spoils after he pulled off a string of impressive stopes, which included a late penalty save.

Zamalek welcome back key Moroccan winger Achraf Bencharki, one of the team's standout performers who missed Saturday's 2-0 win over Ismaily due to automatic suspension.

The club will miss in-form central defender Mahmoud El-Wensh and left-back Mohamed Abdel-Shafi, who are also suspended, but Zamalek's French coach Patrice Carteron is not too worried.

"The two players will finally have a chance to take some rest. We have other players who can make up for their absence," he said.

Zamalek are eyeing their first league accolade since they claimed the domestic double in 2015.
