The new Egyptian Premier League season will kick off on 25 October, a few days following the national team's crucial double-header against Libya in the World Cup qualifiers, the country's football association (EFA) announced on Tuesday.
The EFA also said the 2020 Egyptian Super Cup, the season's curtain raiser which was due to be held at the beginning of last term, will be held on 21 September. Ahly, domestic double champions in 2020, will contest the trophy against cup runners-up Talae El-Geish.
The EFA also confirmed that last season's Egypt Cup will resume after reports suggested that it would be called off to pave the way for an earlier starting date for the new season.
The secondary domestic competition will kick-start on 25 September, with Ahly facing Enppi and Pyramids playing Smouha in the round of 16.
The winners of both games will face off in the quarter-finals four days later, with the winner taking on Petrojet in the semi-final on 3 October.
The other semi-final between Zamalek and Aswan will be played one day earlier while the final will take place on 19 October.
