After drawing with Niger's US Gendarmerie Nationale (USGN) in their opening game in the CAF Champions League, Ahly's coach Pitso Mosimane asked the league to use video assistant referee (VAR) in future games.

CAF Champions League title holders Ahly kicked off the defence of their crown with a 1-1 draw to Niger's US Gendarmerie Nationale (USGN) in an away match on Saturday, despite snatching an early lead over the hosts.

"We didn't achieve our target from the game as it wasn't easy mission to play on such playground," Mosimane told the post game press conference.

Tunisian full-back Ali Maaloul dispatched a 19th-minute penalty to put Ahly in front but USGN secured a draw with a second-half goal at the General Seyni Kountche stadium in Niamey.

In the second half, Ahly's sluggishness was punished when a poorly headed clearance from Hamdi Fathi was pounced on by a USGN forward, who outjumped right-back Mohamed Hani to flick into the path of unmarked striker Moumouni Djibril Diori to volley home from close range.

"We scored early but we finally we received the equalizer by the end of the game and we defended well; I am not happy with the result,"

"The US Gendarmerie Nationale have a brilliant squad and they are a good team,"

Ahly players and technical staff asked the game's referee to announce a penalty kick for the Reds after right-back Akram Tawfik was suspended inside the area that could manage the visitors to double the score.

"It's difficult for a referee to announce two penalty kicks in one game especially in Africa. No referee in Africa has the ability to announce two penalty kick in one game," Mosimane said.

"I ask the Confederation of African Football, when will the VAR will be officiated in all games? If we don't have it in all games the situation will stay as it is," the South African coach added.

"Sometimes the referee couldn't see all what happen but if we have the VAR that could help the referee in his mission," the Ahly coach said.
