Ahly have denied they are interested in Zamalek's under-fire Mahmoud Abdel-Razik “Shikabala” or Mainz's out-of-contract forward Mohamed Zidan.

“Shikabala is a good player and Ahly wanted to land him in the past but he chose to stay at his club. We respected his decision and haven’t contacted him again,” the Reds marketing director Adly El-Qeiy was quoted as saying on the club’s official website Wednesday.

The Zamalek board decided Saturday to offload the 26-year-old due to his pitch-side fight with coach Shehata after he was sidelined in the Maghreb Fez game two weeks ago.

The Cairo giants’ coaching staff, under manager Hossam El-Badry, also rubbished reports suggesting the club was interested in signing former Borussia Dortmund striker Mohamed Zidan, according to a statement on the club's website.

The 30-year old has had an impressive start to his third stint with Mainz after rejoining them on loan from Borussia Dortmund in January, scoring seven goals to help the club avoid relegation to second division.
