Razak Omotoyossi was on target as Benin kicked off their World Cup qualifying campaign with a narrow 1-0 home victory over Mali on Sunday.

The 26-year-old forward, who plays for Egyptian giants Zamalek, scored his side's only goal after 18 minutes.

He held off a couple of Mali defenders, neatly controlled a long ball before placing his shot past the keeper from inside the area.

Benin's win puts them on top of the Group H on three points, level with Algeria who won their opening game on Saturday after thrashing Rwanda 4-0.

Omotoyossi signed a three-year deal with Zamalek in September 2011 and has scored four competitive goals since. He is expected back in Cairo after Benin's next World Cup qualifier in Rwanda.
