Winger of the National Bank of Egypt (NBE) club Karim Bambo has been suspended by the Egyptian Anti-Doping Organization (EGY-NADO) for doping, the organisation announced in a statement on Wednesday.

The 28-year-old former Ahly player tested positive for the weight-loss drug Sibutramine, which is included on the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Prohibited List under the class S6b and is prohibited in-competition.

Bambo was hit with the doping ban despite his claim that he took the drug under the supervision of his team's doctor without any intention of enhancing his performance, according to the EGY-NADO statement.

Bambo's four-month suspension started on 5 September, EGY-NADO said.

Bambo joined NBE last season on a one-year loan deal from Cairo giants Zamalek, before signing a permanent three-year contract this summer.

The player scored 12 goals in the Egyptian Premier League last season.
