Palestinian striker Mahmoud Wadi scored the winner on 25 minutes when he slotted home on the rebound after Eric Traore's initial shot was parried by keeper Brudel Efonge into his path.

Traore could have made it 2-0 with less than 20 minutes remaining when he broke clear, only for Efonge to charge out of his area and block the Burkinabe's effort with his arm, which earned him a straight red card.

Pyramids held on for a valuable victory which put them within touching distance of a place in the group stage.

"Although we could have taken more advantage of the red card and scored more goals, winning away from home is a great result," said Pyramids coach Ehab Galal.

The Emirati-owned club reached the Confederation Cup final in 2020 but lost to Morocco's RS Berkane 1-0. They were the victims of another Moroccan outfit a year later, slumping to a shootout defeat by Raja in the semi-final following a 0-0 aggregate draw.
