The 2021 one-off African Super Cup game between Egypt’s Ahly and Morocco’s Raja will be played on 22 December in the Qatari capital of Doha.
“Goalkeeper Mohamed El-Shennawy is fit for the game, as he will join Monday’s training session after missing the one on Sunday,” Ahly’s doctor Ahmed Abu-Abla told reporters on Monday.
“Also, right-back Akram Tawfik underwent physical therapy session to recover from his muscle injury,” he added.
Ahly’s squad welcomed back on Sunday the return of all international players — who recently finished their participation in the FIFA Arab Cup — and have started preparing for the African Super Cup showdown.
Red Devils’ coach Mosimane gave all international players a day off on Sunday to recover from the fatigue brought about by the Arab Cup games.
Most of Ahly’s main lineup took part in the Arab Cup to represent their national teams in the tournament, as Ali Maaloul’s Tunisia finished in second place while Egypt’s national team claimed 4th place.
The annual African Super Cup game between Ahly — the winners of the 2021 CAF Champions League — and Raja — the winner of the Confederation Cup title — was initially scheduled to be played last September but was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Ahly claimed the 2021 African Champions League title after beating the Kaizer Chiefs of South Africa 3-0 in the final game last July.
Meanwhile, Raja Club Athletic secured the Confederation Cup title after beating JS Kabylie of Algeria 2-1 in the final game also in July.
Ahly holds the record for the most African Super Cup wins with seven titles, followed by Egypt’s Zamalek with four titles.
