Ahly's Moroccan influential defender Badr Benoun has confirmed that he won’t be available for his team at the anticipated FIFA Club World Cup that will run from 3 to 12 February in the UAE due to his injury.

The 28-year old Benoun was dealt a double blow after testing positive for coronavirus once he was called up to represent Morocco in the current African Cup of Nations before picking a calf injury that excluded him ahead of the tournament start.

Recent rumors claimed that the Ahly stopper faces a very long time on the sidelines as he suffers a serious injury, but he refuted all these claims.

“All the recent reports about my injury aren’t true at all. Suffering from coronavirus twice in just few months caused some medical complications that only need me to rest from three to five weeks,” the player clarified via Instagram late on Friday.

Since joining Ahly last year from Moroccan side Raja, Benoun has established himself as one of Ahly's key players; helping the team to win both the African Champions League and African Super Cup titles.

Ahly will be facing Mexican side Monterrey in their FIFA Club World Cup opening match on 5 February.

Ahly currently lead the domestic league table with 19 points from seven games, with one game still in hand.
